I keep forgetting the commands for listing all the processes and killing it and such though, so it's easier to reboot. The odd thing is that it sometimes plays YouTube clips just fine. I wouldn't be surprised if the error message you are getting in regards to firefox is the result of the application not fully shutting down. You need to go into the processes and kill the still open firefox process and then you will be able to reopen it. Your sound problems are the result of using Linux.
