I would choose to have the Gerbil companion and I would name him Boo.

Eventually he would help me to escape and I will yell "Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!"

But they are small and fluffy and cutesome! You could play games with the little chappie, and tell him things, and teach him to do tricks. And, more importantly, to oose through the tiny hole and bring back bits of chocolate and important documents and the key and suchlike. I would definitely go with the gerbil.

Well, your own practically only sister chose to be alone. But she is a nasty and maladjusted wench.

I might agree with her in this case, though. What if it nibbled your earlobes off during the night, or placed its fewmets in strategic locations so as to surprise you? Or what if it were a plant by your captors, and once you befriended it and told it the location of the hidden Rebel base it scuttered away and ratted on you? (Gerbiled, rather, I suppose.)

Mother: I do not envisage this hypothetical gerbil to bite either more nor less than the regular kind. Do they bite?

Gosh, why wouldn't you want a gerbil? Srsly, that one is just silly. The gerbil will surely win every time.
