Eh, blame Wikimedia Commons. They labelled it a cello. :p

A flautist, you say? I used to busk with a tin whistle, which is vaguely similar...

Kovac: I get asked if I'm English all the time. And then there was the guy at a wedding who laughed at me for not eating chicken drumsticks with my fingers and said "I guess she's not used to Kiwi ways" - no idea where he thought I was from. And then there was the woman at Uni who complimented me on my excellent English, presumably thinking I was Of Foreign Extraction... and my very weird Screen and Media supervisor who told me that Helpdesk Man and I both speak in an "affected" way, and went on to say "it must be like dating your brother". Which... was difficult to respond to adequately, given that she was marking my assignments. I get it, I talk funny, but sheesh. Uncalled-for much?

How foolish of me to have missed such blatantly obvious and well known details...

I had a couple of people ask me if I was English when I was working at New World. I can only assume it was because when working I tended to enunciate more than usual.

Harumph ... you don't have to wear gigantic dresses to play the cello.

Besides, the above picture is of a viol (bass viol, I think) - forerunner to the cello. Check out the shape and the number of pegs on the scroll.

You never told me that story before! Hee hee! I guess I miss out on meeting all kinds of interesting people by hiding in the projection room. :(
I would have pegged you as a flautist, or other woodwind instrument player. ;)

It might be fortunate that you don't play the cello as a family of paupers might have wandered past and decided to set up residence under the GIGANTIC dress that you would be required to wear.
